Episode 88: Cost of Living Series: Universal Basic Income - A Concept for our Future

This week we chat to Michael Haines about an the benefits of a Universal Basic Income (UBI).

The concept of UBI is that a set amount of money is paid to every adult citizen, permanent resident, and refugee living in the community, every week — to meet their basic needs.

There is no means test - every citizen receives it, it is paid unconditionally and it is adequate enough to support an individuals basic needs.

The benefits of UBI positively impact on poverty, welfare recipients, those in unpaid work (carers) and support life long learning.
